Is the Kyte Chrome extension free?
Yes. The Kyte Chrome extension is free and available on the Chrome Web Store. No account and no payment are required to install and use it.
How much is the Kyte Mac app?
The Kyte Mac app is a one-time purchase with no subscription and no recurring billing. You buy it once and use it forever. The Chrome extension is free.
What is URL-level blocking?
URL-level blocking lets you block a website by default (like YouTube or Reddit) while allowing specific pages you actually need, such as one work video or one thread. Most blockers only work at the domain level, which forces you to unblock the entire site. Kyte gives you surgical control over individual pages.
How is Kyte different from other website blockers?
Most blockers (Freedom, Cold Turkey, SelfControl) work at the domain level: unblock a site and you unblock everything on it. Kyte blocks at the URL level, so you can allow one page and keep the rest of the site blocked. It is also local-first, requires no account to use, and the Mac app is a one-time purchase.
Does Kyte require an account?
No account is required to use Kyte. For the paid Mac app you provide an email to receive your license key and download link, but the app runs offline and stores all data locally. The Chrome extension requires no sign-in at all.
Does Kyte track my browsing?
No. Kyte is local-first. Your blocklists, allowlists, and browsing activity stay on your device. The app does not phone home, and the Chrome extension declares no data collection in its manifest.
What platforms does Kyte support?
Kyte is a macOS app (Apple Silicon and Intel) plus a Chrome extension. It does not currently support Windows, iOS, or Android.
Can I schedule focus sessions?
Yes. The Mac app supports recurring daily focus schedules that start and stop blocking automatically, plus on-demand sessions with an optional lock mode you cannot quit early.
What is a locked session?
A locked session blocks your chosen apps and sites for a set time with no quick toggle to turn it off early. It adds enough friction that you cannot talk yourself out of focus mid-session.
Does the Mac app block websites too?
The Mac app currently blocks apps system-wide and runs scheduled and locked sessions. System-wide website blocking on Mac is on the roadmap. For URL-level website control today, use the free Chrome extension.
Will I see a security warning when I install the Mac app?
If the app is distributed outside the App Store you may see a Gatekeeper prompt on first launch. Right-click the app and choose Open (or follow the install instructions) to run it the first time.
Can I get a refund?
Yes. Refund requests are accepted within 14 days of purchase if the app does not work on your system or the purchase was accidental. See the Refund Policy for full details.
